There’s a file in Windows 7 and Windows 8 that system uses for overriding DNS when contacting specific servers on the Internet and in most cases it causes the 3194 error. So we need to edit that file.
- Start with opening your standard Windows Notepad as Administrator (not to have any issues when saving the file edited). To do so you may start typing “Notepad” in search field in Start menu (Windows 7, Windows 10) or Start Screen (Windows 8) and when you see Notepad shortcut click on it with the right mouse button and choose “Run as Administrator”.
- In notepad click “File” – “Open”, make Open Dialog to show all files not only txt and navigate to Windows / System32 / drivers / etc folder.
- Next, open hosts file in that folder.
- If you see any lines in hosts file containing gs.apple.com, remove the lines and then hosts file.
Fixed (Please note: you should restart iTunes for fix to start working). To make sure iTunes 3194 error is gone, restart your computer. Now you should restore your iPhone or iPad with no problems.
